Helper volunteers are very special people making a tremendous
difference in the quality of life for people living with AIDS. When people come
to me and ask for a Helper volunteer, there are many things going on in their
lives and with their health. In order to continue working even part time,
people living with AIDS can find daily tasks overwhelming. Our Helper
volunteers assist in maintaining clients’ homes through general housework,
running errands, laundry, and cooking.
Helper volunteers come in two varieties, Long Term and Freelance. Long term
Volunteers are assigned one-to-one with a client and concentrate on their needs
with their volunteer team. A Freelance Volunteer is generally someone who
doesn’t have the time to regularly commit, but can do things from time to time
on an “on call” basis. Long Term Volunteers attend a weekend training seminar
to learn the skills necessary to work with people living with HIV/AIDS. The
next training seminar is scheduled for June 3-4. Freelance volunteers attend a
21/2 hour workshop. If you are interested in attending, please call
me at 451-2273 for an application and further information.
