As we go to press Wednesday afternoon, the No. 11 University of Texas men’s basketball program is prepping for a huge Big 12 game against No. 10 Texas A&M. This game is the primary focus of most UT sports lovers, but Gail Goestenkors‘ unranked UT women’s basketball team will also be facing off Wednesday night against the No. 5 Aggies in College Station. The Longhorn women have lost their last three, which also happened to be their first three conference games, and will have a hard time improving that record on the road against the highly favored Aggies. So I’m looking for Saturday’s home matchup against Oklahoma State (1-3 in Big 12 play as of press time) as the game where UT gets its first W in Big 12 play. UT is 11-6 overall this season (Oklahoma State sits at 13-4) and has been led by the dangerous duo of freshman guard Chassidy Fussell and senior guard Kathleen Nash. Fussell is averaging a team-high 16.6 points per game with Nash right behind her at 15.6 ppg. Nash has also pulled down the second-most boards for the Horns with 8.5 per game. UT needs to keep its eye on sophomore forward Toni Young, who is leading the Cowgirls in points per game (14.3) and rebounds (8.2).
