The United Soccer Leagues First Division, jolted Monday by the Rochester Rhinos’ defection to the fledgling North American Soccer League, was further hit Wednesday by a report on internationalsoccernetwork.com that the Cleveland City Stars have ceased operations.

The report had few details, but said that International Soccer Network had “received information from multiple sources that the Cleveland City Stars have ceased operations and will not return to play professional soccer. … An official announcement from the City Stars organization is expected early next week.”
