This is getting to be a little embarrassing. In what sport does the University of Texas not excel? Baseball America (as well as every other major preseason poll) has designated the Longhorns No. 1 in the country going into the 2010 season, as well as Team of the Decade (2000-2009). UT was also recently voted to win the Big 12 regular season in the coaches’ poll. Texas has a total of six national titles (most recently in 2005), and with all four starting pitchers and five starting position players returning, they are likely to make another championship run starting this Friday, vs. the New Mexico Lobos. Expect a lot of production from juniors Cameron Rupp, Kevin Keyes, and Connor Rowe, who each had 40 or more RBIs in 2009. Sadly, this will be the last College World Series held at the legendary Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb., where the series has been played since 1950. I’d love to see the Horns win it all in what will certainly be a memorable CWS. Vs. New Mexico: Fri., Feb. 19, 3pm; Sat., Feb. 20, 2pm; Sun., Feb. 21, 1pm. Vs. Dallas Baptist: Tue., Feb. 23, 3pm. Disch-Falk Field, 1300 E. MLK. $5-12. www.texassports.com.
