The FreezeRide is the Texas Ski Ranch‘s annual season kickoff event, and this year’s will feature a cable wakeboard and wakeskate tourney with five different divisions (beginner, intermediate, advanced, pro, and wakeskate) and demos of the hottest new MasterCraft boats. For those unfamiliar, wakeboarding is a sport incorporating elements of surfing, water skiing, and snowboarding in which the participant is towed behind a motor boat on a wakeboard while trying to stay upright and pull off as many fancy tricks as possible. As a special treat to the public, cable passes will be available free of charge, the skate park and rock wall will be open for free, there will be free hot dogs, and the latest wakeboarding fashions will be on display in the gift shop. It’s a wakeboarding extravaganza. Sat., Feb. 5; doors, 10am. Texas Ski Ranch, 6700 N. I-35, New Braunfels, 830/627-2843. Free. www.texasskiranch.com.
