UPDATE: Colt McCoy has officially announced he will come back, and he leads in the latest Heisman balloting…

The Supreme Court of BCS confirmed the choice of GWB as the next president, ur, Oklahoma as the national title contender, Sunday as on television James Baker, uh, make that former O.U. Coach Barry Switzer congratulated the current Shrub, ur, Coach Bob Stoops, who grinned nervously via satellite and graciously accepted his “victory.”

If the comparisons aren’t eerie to you, then you haven’t been paying attention. OK, it’s a little extreme to compare a football game to the selection of a world misleader, but the parallels are interesting, and here’s my point: Dubya created the Obama presidency (it took an extreme change to calm the Gods of Karma). Oklahoma just created the 2009 national champion University of Texas Longhorns.

Calm down, my many Sooner readers. No whining here (Isn’t that what they said of Al Gore‘s followers?). Just the facts. The worst recent news in Burnt Orange Land was not that Texas was screwed out of the Big 12 title game by a team they beat by 10. It was QB Colt McCoy‘s early musings that he might just go pro and forego his senior year. Now, with OU in the driver’s seat, Sam Bradford looks surely headed for the Heisman Trophy. Can you say Bradford in the NFL? Do sophomores go the NFL? They do it they redshirted a year like Bradford.

Where does that leave McCoy? Pissed and ready to get his trophy in ’09. Ready to prove the 45-35 victory over the Sooners was not a fluke. Imagine Vince Young losing to USC. I’m betting he would have returned for his senior year. McCoy has been denied. His lifelong best friend, roommate and pitch-and-catch partner Jordan Shipley is looking to return for a 18th retirement season at DKR-Memorial Stadium, and it should be interesting to say the least. Four creampuffs to open the season (Wyoming?). and a home revenge game against Texas Tech. The biggest challenge on the schedule next to the Sooners appears to be Baylor at Waco. I kid you not. OK, everyone will be touting the four-game stretch again: OU, Missouri there, Okie State there and then Tech at home. But if the offensive line shapes up and the defensive line stays solid, no one will notice the complete lack of a running game.

Or Texas could just step aside and hand the 2009 national championship to the Texas State Bobcats and take the position of Secretary of Football. Anything is possible.

See you at the Fiesta Bowl. I’ll bring the chips.
