The UT Longhorns won the last two games in the nonconference part of their schedule, without getting a goal from Alexa Adams: 1-0 over North Texas and 2-1 over previously unbeaten UC-Santa Barbara. Freshman forward Tecora Turner was named the Big 12 Fresh­man of the Week for scoring the winning goal against UCSB. The Horns open their Big 12 schedule this week on the road at Baylor and Oklahoma.

The St. Edward’s men remain fifth in the nation in NCAA Div. II, and the women broke into the top 25 for the first time, as they each won a pair of Heartland Conference games over the weekend. It’s the men’s turn to play at home this weekend, hosting Lubbock Christian Thursday at 3pm, and UT-Permian Basin Saturday at 1pm.

The European Champions League group stage continues Tue.-Wed., Sept. 27-28 (continuing through Dec. 6-7), with a number of televised games each day at 1:45pm… The next-to-last week of the CONCACAF Champ­ions League group stage is Sept. 27-29, with games each evening. No MLS/Mexico duopoly in the final eight this year, as Panama’s Arabe Unido knocked off Monterrey to clinch a spot in the knockout rounds. Costa Rica’s Saprissa could follow them in at the Portland Timbers‘ expense if the Timbers can’t win in San Salvador this week.
