Six local high school teams are still alive in the state soccer playoffs. It’s crunch time as well in world soccer, as regular seasons head into their stretch runs, cup competitions get into the final rounds, and top teams find themselves competing on as many as three different competitions in the course of one week. The European Champions League quarterfinals started this week, and included a couple of surprises, as Wolfsburg dropped Real Madrid, 2-0, and Manchester United, the final Brit standing, earned a cracking 2-2 draw at Paris Saint-Germain. The return legs are next Tue.-Wed., April 12-13.

In the all-Mexican CONCACAF Champions League semifinals Tuesday night, both Tigres and América advanced by scoring late, late winners while playing a man down. The two-leg final is April 20 and 27.

The expansion San Antonio FC trounced Seattle, 3-0, in their first game ever. Their home opener is this Saturday, April 9. See more info at www.uslsanantonio.com.
