St. Edward’s will host both the Men’s and Women’s 2014 Heartland Conference Soccer Tournaments this weekend at Lewis-Chen Family Field on the St. Ed’s campus. Free admission. The Hilltopper men finished the regular season at 14-2-1 (8-0 in the Heartland Conference), and ranked 11th in the nation in NCAA Div. II; the women are 12-4 (8-0).
Thursday, Nov. 6: Women’s semifinals: No. 1 St. Edward’s vs. No. 4 St. Mary’s, noon; No. 2 Dallas Baptist vs. No. 3 Texas A&M-Int’l, 2:30pm.
Friday, Nov. 7: Men’s semifinals: No. 2 Newman vs. No. 3 St. Mary’s, noon; No. 1 St. Edward’s vs. No. 4 Texas A&M-Int’l, 2:30pm.
Saturday, Nov. 8: Women’s Final at noon.
Sunday, Nov. 9: Men’s Final at noon.
The UT Longhorns lost to Oklahoma State, 2-1, in the regular season finale on Halloween, but kept their season alive Wednesday afternoon in Kansas City, knocking nationally-ranked Texas Tech out of the Big 12 tournament in a 6-5 penalty kick shootout after a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime. The Horns take on top-seeded West Virginia at 5:30pm Friday; streamed online at the Big 12 website.
There’s the usual blanket coverage of the English Premier League this weekend on NBC networks, but their real focus is on MLS playoffs: the second leg of the conference semifinals.
