The St. Edward’s women‘s season ended Sunday with a disappointing 2-1 upset by Metro State in the NCAA second round. Our local hopes now have to rest on San Antonio’s Trinity College, whose men are ranked fourth in Division III and won’t have to leave town to win a national title, since they host a regional championship this weekend, plus the NCAA Final Four next weekend.

Tough year for favorites in the MLS playoffs: Last week’s conference semifinals saw all four top seeds eliminated at home, and the finals started off the same way, with decisive first-leg wins by the lower seed. The conference champs will be crowned this Sunday, Nov. 18, as the Houston Dynamo defend a 3-1 lead at DC United (3pm, NBCSN), and the LA Galaxy take a 3-0 lead into Seattle (8pm, ESPN). The MLS Cup is Saturday, Dec. 1… The U.S. earned a draw at Russia Wednesday, one of a full slate of international games.
