Three local teams made it to this weekend’s UIL state championships in Georgetown: the Westlake boys (5A semifinal, 6pm Thursday); Bowie girls (5A semifinal, 1pm Thursday); and Dripping Springs boys (4A semifinal, 6pm Friday).
Women’s Professional Soccer kicks off its expanded 24-game schedule with a full slate of four games April 10-11 – including the Fox Soccer Channel game of the week: 2009 champ Sky Blue FC hosting the Chicago Red Stars.
Shocks in the European Champions League, or maybe it’s just the Premier League coming back to ground after a phenomenal run. First Lionel Messi scored four goals as Barcelona dismantled Arsenal, then Bayern Munich came from two down at Old Trafford to oust Manchester United. And after having three of the final four teams in each of the last three years, England is shut out of that elite company for the first time since 2003. Man U also lost to Chelsea in league play, dropping behind them into second with just five games to play. The good news: Wayne Rooney’s surprise start Wednesday, a week after his ankle injury.
