Labor news: Reuters reports that a Romanian second division club had sold defender Marius Cioara to fourth division Regal Horia for 15 kilograms of meat. Rather than report to Regal, however, Cioara decided to retire and take a construction job in Spain, leaving a club official to lament to sports daily Pro Sport, “We are upset because we lost twice – firstly because we lost a good player and secondly because we lost our team’s food for a whole week.”

Set those recorders: two great elimination games next week in the Champions League Round of 16, but ESPN2 is tape delaying them both until 11:30pm. On Tuesday it’s Chelsea at Barcelona, 2-1 winners last week in London. On Wednesday it’s Real Madrid at Arsenal, who won 1-0 last week in the Spanish capital.

Friendly Wednesday: lots of international results; see “Soccer Watch Online.”
