Mixed success for the Lady Longhorns last weekend, with a disappointing 2-0 loss to Colorado followed by a 6-0 shellacking of hapless Texas Tech. Next up, the Horns visit Iowa State Friday night before coming home for their last Big 12 home game of the season: 1pm Sunday against league leader Nebraska.

By the time you read this, World Cup Qualifying will be just about finished; already, 25 of the 32 spots in next summer’s WC are set. The surprising news on the weekend was from Africa, where four countries qualified for the WC Finals for the first time: Angola, Togo, Ivory Coast, and Ghana join African champs Tunisia, as dramatic late scores doomed favorites Nigeria, Cameroon, and Senegal. Elsewhere, Costa Rica advanced by thumping a largely second-string U.S. squad, 3-0; England, Italy, Portugal, Holland, Poland, and Croatia qualified in Europe, and Paraguay and Ecuador made it in South America.
