A new No. 1? The UT women opened their Big 12 campaign last weekend with a pair of 2-0 losses at Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Freshman goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger played the entire OU game; in the previous eight games, coach Chris Petrucelli had platooned the keepers, with veteran Dana Hall starting and Pfenninger playing the second half. The Horns are back home at Myers Stadium this weekend, hosting Baylor (7pm, Friday) and No. 11 Texas A&M (1pm, Sunday).

Soccer Saving Lives: Dripping Springs Youth Soccer Association hosts its annual Fall Festival this Saturday, but with a twist this year’s event is a fundraiser for the local Red Cross and families who’ve come to Dripping Springs due to Hurricane Katrina. Oct. 1, 11:30am at the Dripping Springs Sportsplex.
The U.S. bowed out of the FIFA U-17 World Championships Monday with a 2-0 quarterfinal loss to Holland. The semifinals Holland-Mexico and Brazil-Turkey are at 4 & 7pm Thursday, with the final at 6pm Sunday, Oct. 2, all live on Fox Soccer Channel.
