The UT Women stumbled on the road last weekend: a 3-2 loss at Michigan and a scoreless draw at Michigan State. This week they’re on the road again, at BYU for a Monday night game, before returning next weekend for home games Sept. 16 and 18 against Portland and Rice.

The U.S. Men clinched their spot in next summer’s World Cup finals with a very satisfying 2-0 win over Mexico on Saturday, extending a home shutout streak against our southern neighbors that goes back to last century. Now they can take it easy for the last three games of the qualifying campaign, give their top players some rest, and try out some youngsters. Sweet. Elsewhere, Brazil and Ukraine booked their tickets to the party, and England lost a shocker to Northern Ireland, and lots more. Complete results from this week, and standings from around the world, are on “Soccer Watch Online.”

Next week the focus turns to Europe, as Champions League play starts Sept. 13-14. ESPN2 will be showing England-Spain matchups each day: Liverpool at Real Betis, 1:30pm Tuesday; and Manchester United at Villarreal, 1:30pm Wednesday.
