The UT women split a pair last week, pounding Tulane 6-0 before losing to sixth-ranked Portland Monday night, 3-1, with two of the goals coming from Canadian national team star Christine Sinclair. The Horns begin a stretch of six straight Big 12 games this week, on the road against Baylor and Texas Tech, two of the weaker teams in the conference.
European Champions League game-day two is this week, and ESPN’s game of the week features two teams with a lot to prove: Roma at Real Madrid, Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1:30pm, ESPN2.
Star-studded Real (Beckham, Zidane, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Figo, Raul, etc, etc.) are coming off a dismal 0-3 loss in their Champs League opener and a mediocre start in Spain. Roma, on the other hand, can count themselves lucky just to get on the field, after a soap-opera off-season and three major disciplinary suspensions in its first three games: two players suspended for multiple games for on-field violence, and its first Champions League game suspended at halftime, the referee leaving the field bleeding and dazed after being struck by something thrown from the stands. (UEFA on Tuesday declared that game forfeited, 0-3, to visitors Dynamo Kiev.) So what’s next? We’ll see Tuesday. (See results and schedules on “Soccer Watch Online.”)
