The mark of quality

These are fine times to be an Austin Toros fan, and it brings me great pleasure to be able to bring you, my loyal reader, all the good news from the front.

First, with their 104-91 victory over the Colorado 14ers on Thursday night, the Toros have won nine straight games, pushing their season record to 14-16, a mere six games out of first place in the Eastern Division. I don’t think anyone could have predicted this back in December. Except for me, of course, a dyed-in-the-wool optimist and true believer in the power of the human spirit.

Secondly, three Toros playersJames White, B.J. Elder, and big man Loren Woods were selected by fans to play in this year’s D-League All-Star game, which will be broadcast on NBA TV Saturday, Feb. 17. Congratulations to them all. I’m not sure if White will be eligible to play, since he’s currently down in San Antonio with the Spurs, but no matter: His and the others’ selections are clear indications of the changed fortunes of the Toros and of a newfound sense of optimism around the Austin Convention Center.

Hell, even Da Bull is back from suspension.

So:
Let music be played! And let workers get paid!
Let wine be drunk! And let ships get sunk!
Let dances be danced! And let lances be lanced!
Let horses be shoed! And let women be nude!

This is Toros time.
