After one period of play with a 3-1 lead and in front of a record-setting crowd of 7,014 at the CPC on Monday, the Texas Stars looked to be on their way to a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Hershey Bears … but then periods two and three happened. Five unanswered goals later the Bears got back in the series with a 6-3 Game 3 victory in the AHL’s Calder Cup Finals.
Even with a 2-1 series lead there is room for some concern. After a strong first period the Stars were completely outhustled and outplayed by the favored Bears in a game that Hershey had to win. And they did.
The Stars need to slow the Bears offensive attack and keep the score low for their best chance to win. Goalie Matt Climie has performed admirably but needs plenty of help around him against Hershey’s powerful offense and ringer Jamie Benn needs to produce more points having only one assist in the three games versus the Bears.
