Mon., Jan. 26, 6am: Day 4
Not Feelin’ It
Maybe I was a little overconfident after completing one week of boot camp, because today totally kicked my ass. I thought that getting up at 5:30am would be the hardest part, it isn’t. Having three days off and drinking too much on two of those days didn’t help, I’m sure. I don’t think binge drinking is the way to a healthier, fitter body. You live, you learn. Now on the weekends there will be no more drinking (maybe a beer or two). I’ll also do some exercising during my short weekend break from boot camp so Monday mornings won’t be so rough. We spent most of today doing two circuits or five exercises each such as push-ups, jumping jacks, skiers, crunches, jump rope, etc. We chose partners and spent two minutes on each exercise. That might not sound that difficult but it totally beat me down. I performed less than admirably and felt mildly nauseated until about half an hour after boot camp was over. I definitely paid the price for my unhealthy living of the past weekend (and the past decade or two).
Day 5
Reschedule
Good news, bad news. Today’s boot camp has to be rescheduled to next week due to inclement weather. I can’t say I was disappointed when I heard the news, but that means we have four straight days of boot camp next week!
Thu., Jan. 29, 6am: Day 6
It’s Cold!
My alarm goes off at 5:30am. I check the weather on my iPhone and it’s 30 degrees outside. This is gonna be fun. Today Janine Quiroga takes charge and it’s a cardio workout. We make a our way to track up the road from our meeting point and find out we’ll be doing a 20-minute run/jog/walk around the track at our own speed. I warm up quickly but I need to remember to breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth. It’s a pretty rough 20 minutes for me, I guess it’s gonna take my body a while to adjust to my new “lifestyle.” I think I completed six laps in 20 minutes, which is a mile and a half. I’m gonna try and run a mile on my own on Saturday. After the track we stretch a little more and them do some sprints. We do about six sprints running forward and then several running backward. Definitely a good workout and it was cold as fuck when we had to get on the ground and do “planks” at the end, but I made it through another week and I didn’t feel sick today.
Four weeks to go.
