After losing his first game back as head coach of the Austin Ice Bats, Brent Hughes responded by leading his squad to back-to-back home victories last weekend at the Chaparral Ice Center. Friday night against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Austin went up 3-0 midway through the second and never looked back, winning easily 4-1. Saturday night vs. the Arizona Sundogs was more typical of the Bats ’07 play. After taking a 4-2 lead halfway through the third period, they gave up a goal with 2:22 remaining. Fortunately for the Bats, their goalie Miquel Beaudry made some impressive saves and kept them from squandering another late-game lead. Beaudry also picked up the W Friday night. Bats right winger Michael Tucciarone was on fire this weekend with three goals and three assists over the two games. Austin continues their homestand this weekend playing New Mexico Friday and Memphis Saturday. The puck drops at 7:30pm both nights.
