Wondering what to get your favorite soccer fan for Christmas? Wonder no more: Austin’s first-ever Major League Soccer team, Austin FC, has just dropped its primary jersey ahead of its 2021 inaugural season.
To the naked eye, it might just look like a green and black stripey shirt with sponsors on it. Look closer and there’s more embedded in the design – the colors recalling the oak tree of Austin FC’s crest, the 11 leaves on the tree symbolizing the 11 players on the pitch, the club’s legacy as the 27th team to join the league.
“The reveal of Austin FC’s first-ever primary jersey is another milestone in the development of our Club as we prepare for our inaugural season in 2021,” said Andy Loughnane, Austin FC President. “This jersey embodies the verde identity of our Club and our City, and we believe it will soon become a mainstay for Austinites.”
Jerseys can be ordered online via the official MLS store, or purchased at the YETI stores on South Congress and at the Domain in north Austin.
Or you can buy them via Austin FC’s mobile retail shop, the Verde Van, which will be parked around town starting today at the following times and places:
Wednesday, Nov. 18, 11am-9pm: Easy Tiger South Lamar: 3508 S Lamar Blvd Suite 200, Austin, TX 78704
Thursday, Nov. 19, 3-9pm: 4th and Congress LAZ Parking Lot: 400 Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78701
Saturday, Nov. 21, noon-3pm: The SoccerZone Lake Line: 920 Old Mill Rd, Cedar Park, TX 78613
Saturday, Nov. 21, 6pm-midnight: Hotel Vegas: 1502 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78702
A secondary jersey is expected to debut shortly before the club’s first season kicks off in spring of 2021. The stadium at McKalla Place is under construction; check out last week’s “Soccer Watch” column for a report from the newly installed pitch.
