D.J. Augustin has racked up a lot of honors this season. But being named to the Oscar Robinson Award’s list of finalists is probably second on his own list behind the recent Academic All-American nomination he recently received.

Though most analysts believe, as I do, that Kansas State’s Michael Beasley, who was also named to the list, is a shoo-in for the Player of the Year Award, Augustin should still feel honored by the recognition he received today from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

Coach Rick Barnes was also named a finalist today for the Henry Iba Award, which goes to the top coach in the nation. Not much had been said about Barnes being a candidate for Coach of the Year.

I suppose tying the school’s all-time record for wins in a season (25), which the Longhorns did with Tuesday’s 70-66 wvictory over Nebraska, will get a team and its coach noticed, though.
