Texas point guard D.J. Augustin was named an All-American by the Sporting News Tuesday after developing into the Longhorns undisputed leader.

This comes a day after his coach, Rick Barnes, was named Big 12 Coach of the Year by the Associated Press.

The Sporting News tabbed North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough their player of the year instead of Kansas State’s Michael Beasley.

That usually happens because the voters went with the MVP of the best team instead of the most talented player in the nation. Since there’s no set guidelines for a player-of-the-year award, I suppose there’s no reason to disagree.

But, I do. Oh well, there’s a few more out there for Beasley to snag. And, while Augustin isn’t seriously in the running for a PoY award, I can only imagine he’ll take home every other All-American award available.
