After sweeping the Rockford IceHogs in four straight in the first round, our Texas Stars have advanced to the American Hockey League’s West Division Finals, where they will face the Chicago Wolves. Hopefully the extra rest will benefit the Stars; it took Chicago seven games to send the Milwaukee Admirals packing. Play commences this Friday and Sunday in Chicago with the Stars returning to the Cedar Park Center for games three, four, and five (if necessary) starting next Tuesday. Center Travis Morin leads the Stars in points during the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs with seven assists for seven points, while forward Jamie Benn (pictured) has three goals and three assists for six points. Goalie Brent Krahn has played all 240 minutes during the playoffs with a perfect 4-0 record while only allowing five goals in the four games with an impressive .961 save percentage. This type of solid goaltending is how you win championships. They’ve still got a long playoff road ahead, but wouldn’t it be special if the Stars hoisted the Calder Cup in their first year of existence? Vs. Chicago: Tue.-Wed., May 4-5, 7:30pm; Fri., May 7, 7:30pm (Friday game if necessary). Cedar Park Center, 2100 Avenue of the Stars, Cedar Park, 512/GO-STARS. $9-50. www.texasstarshockey.com.
