Envisioned as a prequel to 1979’s beautiful adventure tale The Black Stallion, this new film is Disney’s first narrative movie made exressly for the IMAX screen. It stars Austin teenager Biana Tamimi, who was discovered following an international talent search (for more on Tamimi’s debut see austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2003-12-26/screens_feature2.html. Tamimi plays a young girl named Neera, lives in North Africa toward the end of World War II. When she becomes separated from her family in the desert, she is befriended by a wild stallion. They bond and she eventually races the horse in a dramatic competition. Even though he’s wild and she’s a child, the pair are triumphant. The film also features incredible desert scenery and race footage.
