The Leopard
1963, PG, 205 min.
Directed by Luchino Visconti, Starring Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale, Alain Delon.

Visconti’s Palme d’Or winner tells the story of an old world Italian aristocrat in the mid-19th century as he observes his old way of life slowly slipping away. The film is visually sumptuous, and Lancaster as the aging prince is marvelous, although the film’s three-hour running time was shortened and the dialogue dubbed into English for the American release. This version restores the edits, making the film again complete. Based on Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lampedusa’s international bestseller, The Leopard is an elegiac stunner that deserves to be seen on the big screen.
