Writer Edwin “Bud” Shrake, who passed away last week after a battle with cancer (see “The Insider’s Outsider Guide to Texas,” Books, and Page Two: R.I.P.), was celebrated locally and nationally for his fiction and nonfiction. He also wrote screenplays. Chronicle Editor Louis Black spoke with Shrake in 1985 about the critically acclaimed Songwriter, starring Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, as well as Shrake’s storied career in scriptwriting (you don’t want to miss the one about Dennis Hopper, acid tabs, and the Mexican revolution).
