If You Don’t Volunteer, Werner Herzog Will Eat His Other Shoe Dept.: And that’d make it difficult for him to keep shooting amazing films in the wilds of South America, wouldn’t it? You can help avoid this tragic blight on indie filmmaking by volunteering to become a “Cinematexas 2002 Mutant,” during that local short film festival’s fall run, Tuesday, Sept. 17-Sunday, Sept. 22. To that end, the Cinematexas gang will be holding a meeting to discuss the “many wonderful opportunities available during this year’s fest” on Monday, Aug. 26, 9pm, at the Vibe (508 E. Sixth). Included in their pitch will be sneak screenings of this year’s fest films, music, and, as always, “more” (i.e., passes and merch). If you can’t make it to that particular call (which is 18 and over, btw), they’ll also be holding another recruitment session Friday, Aug. 30, 6pm, at the Texas Union Theatre. For more info, e-mail coordinator Dana Garner at volunteer@cinematexas.org or call 471-6497… Reel Women is hosting an “Intro to Blue Screen” workshop, Saturday, Aug. 24, location TBA, with “special effects wizard and stuntman” Steve Wolf. The title says it all, I think. $15 RW members/$25 everyone else, and space is limited. E-mail reelwmen@texas.net for more info.
