Things to Come Dept.: It may be stultifyingly hot out there right now, but fall is just around the corner, which means the imminent return of several film-related events that always seem to crop up when the temperature dips below, uh, 85 degrees. Alchemy Works’ Movie Midwifing Screenplay Contest is slated to make its return come mid-September, and to that end they’ve just announced the winners of the 2002 competition: Michele Stanush (The Hole Thing); John L. Shea III (What the Doctor Ordered); Bernadette Nason (Letty’s Prayer); and Scott Miles (Schizophrenic Oz). Congrats to those winners and the competition finalists (listed, along with other information, at www.moviemidwifing.com)… There’s also the Austin Film Festival (Oct. 10-17), which has just announced their initial lineup of big-name attendees and participants, including 2002 Outstanding Television Writer Award recipient Darren Star (creator of Sex and the City) and filmmaking brothers Chris and Paul Weitz (About a Boy, American Pie).
