Odds & Sods Redux Dept.: Benefits galore this week, beginning with one for writer/director Tracie Laymon‘s feature-length indie film Up, Sunday, April 28, 7pm-midnight, at Club DeVille (900 Red River). Ten measly bucks gets you a silent auction, music by Tia Carrera, Masonic, and Dale Watson, as well as stand-up comedy, a roving masseuse, and food and drink. Check out their Web site at www.upfilm.com for more info. Also at Club DeVille, albeit later in the week, is Reel Women’s Movie Hoot Night, Thursday, May 2, at 8pm (see box above)… Local film editor Sandra Adair — best known for editing almost all of Richard Linklater‘s films — will be teaching “The Art of Editing” at Austin Film Works, May 13-17, 6:30-9:30pm, location tba. Registration fee is $450 and class size is limited to six(!) people, so jump on this instantaneously if you’re interested. Call 467-0731 or go online at www.austinfilmworks.com for more info… Finally, it’s time to say so long to Anne del Castillo, former Austin salon coordinator for the Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers and previous associate director of the Austin Film Society, who’s moving to New York City next week to be closer to the Strokes. No, wait, that’s not right at all — she’s embarking on the big “starting a family” odyssey (with her husband, it should be noted, not Julian Casablancas), and frankly we can’t think of a better potential mom, given her consistently caring interaction with Austin’s filmmaking community. Both del Castillo and incoming AIVF Director Jen White will be on hand for a screening of short films by Juliet Dervin and Helen Lee co-presented by UT’s Asian American Studies Dept. and the AIVF, Saturday, April 27, 3:30pm, at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown (409 Colorado). Call 917-3027 for more info.
