… And Starring Ben Affleck as “Leatherface– Dept.: Variety reported last week that the original writing/directing team of former Austinites Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel are penning a remake of their classic 1974 shocker The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to be produced this time out by — sweet sassy molassy! — Michael Bay‘s new low-budget production company Platinum Dunes. Bay, best known as the director of oversized actioners such as Armageddon and Pearl Harbor, seems an unlikely choice for such a willfully deviant (in a good way) project, but we’ll withhold further comment until stars and a director are in place. (Personally, we’re hoping for Billy Bob Thornton as the Hitchhiker and maybe Owen Wilson as, uh, Franklin.)… Cinemaker Co-op‘s never-ending mandate to get you to make your own damn films, already, continues apace with their upcoming Super 8 Basics Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 9, noon-4pm, at a location TBA. The class will be taught by Cinemaker overlords Shannon Owens and Andre Silva, the cost is $50 general/$35 Cinemaker members, and topics will range from lighting to film stock to where to find a bulb for dad’s old projector.
