‘Zebrowski’s World: The Poster Graphics of Leszek Zebrowski’
The Iron Curtain: bad for human rights and the human spirit, but apparently pretty productive for art. Case in point, the dark arts of Slavic poster-making. Polish artist Leszek Zebrowski is one of its premier practitioners; his gorgeous posters – for films, theatrical productions, and festivals – are impishly macabre works bursting with color and, seemingly, texture. For three years now, Zebrowski has produced the poster for the annual Austin Polish Film Festival, and to celebrate the collaboration, APFF is hosting a showcase of his prints called “Zebrowski’s World: The Poster Graphics of Leszek Zebrowski.” The exhibit, which runs Sunday, Oct. 25, through Friday, Nov. 13, takes place at the East Side Showroom (1100 E. Sixth), with an opening reception taking place on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 5pm. The Austin Polish Film Festival runs Nov. 5-8; for more info about the exhibit and the festival, see www.austinpolishsociety.org/austinpff2009.
