The title marks the date of James Dean’s death, and this tells the story of an Arkansas undergraduate who’s so upset by the news that he organizes a drinking party with his friends, which leads to further tragedy. Director Bridges (Urban Cowboy, The China Syndrome) always seem to have the pulse of the American zeitgeist.
