The sixth annual Austin Heart of Film Screenwriters Conference and Austin Film Festival winds to a close tonight, Thursday, Oct. 14, after a seven-day flurry of panels, screenings, Q&As, afterparties, and general schmoozing. Presented here are reviews of some of the collected shorts and features that screened during the festival and a list of the screenplay and film competition winners. AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL 1999 AWARD WINNERS

Films

FEATURE FILM: Wednesday’s Child, written and directed by Brad Marlowe (In addition, Marlowe won the Deluxe Lab of Hollywood’s Young Filmmakers Award, which is a complete post-production package.)

SHORT FILM: “Peep Show,” written by Damon Jones, Bob Kirsh, and Patti Frick, directed by Charlie Call (also the runner-up Narrative Short at SXSW ’99)

STUDENT FILM: Paradosis, written and directed by Trevor Jenkins

Screenplays

More than 3,200 scripts were entered in the 1999 Heart of Film Screenplay competition, which is supported by a grant from the Moody Foundation of Galveston, Texas.
