A selectively small SXSW 2010 audience already got a first look at clips from Predators, and now Austin nabs the July 7 world premiere.

No surprise there – it was, after all, produced by Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellán’s Troublemaker Studios and shot in Austin – but why look a gift horse in the mouth? Nimród Antal’s reboot of the Predator franchise has been generating good buzz; from what we can piece together from the squirming trailer (see below), it’s rocking a The Most Dangerous Game vibe, with a group of mercenaries, convicts, and thugs (including Adrien Brody and Danny Trejo) set down on another planet as human game for hunter-aliens, the Predators. (Curiously, there’s no sign of Topher Grace in the preview, even though he’s second-billed.)

Tickets go on sale for the July 7 Paramount Theater premiere on Thursday, June 24 through 866-9PROTIX, protixonline.com or the Paramount Theatre box office. Options range from $30 for screening-only upper-balcony seats to a $500 VIP package including premium seating and admittance to an afterparty at the Belmont.

Proceeds from this event benefit the Austin Film Society‘s Texas Filmmakers Production Fund and the Texas Motion Picture Alliance (TXMPA).

Predators opens in theatres nationally on July 9.
