The PBS series One Square Mile takes a microcosmic approach to “Texas life and culture”; its first season features nine quintessentially Texas spots from El Paso to Port Isabel and everywhere in between. But Feb. 13, we get to the heart of it all: Downtown Austin.
The producers made their way through town last spring, catching glimpses of our fair town’s food, music, friendly faces, and … the juggernaut of South by Southwest. OK, so maybe it’s a slightly skewed microcosm, but it’s a part of our city’s identity we can’t deny.
They interviewed several key faces from around Austin, including SXSW co-founder (and Austin Chronicle editor) Louis Black, SXSW Film’s Jarod Neece, KLRU’s Mario Troncoso, the Khabele School’s John Mulvaney, Ballet Austin’s Andrew Mankin, and a local pedicabber, a chef, and a priest in this tiny snapshot of the capital.
The full episode premieres Thursday, Feb. 13, at 8pm on KLRU, but it’s available online this week (through Feb. 11) for a sneak preview, courtesy of sponsors Southwest Air and Best Maid.
