This will be the final screening of Nosferatu backed with local musician Dick Price’s live, original piano accompaniment. No one has ever matched this 1922 Nosferatu for sheer creepiness and horror. Max Schreck in this German silent film is the definitive screen vampire. With his elongated body, ghastly face, sharp teeth and claw-like fingers, Schreck is the embodiment of primal fear. Director Murnau was one of the best film imagists there ever was and his precise black-and-white compositions add unimagined dimensions to Nosferatu’s spell. A collection of vintage cartoons and shorts will accompany this program that screens on Wednesday, November 17 at 9:30pm.
