Well, this is exciting: Deadline Hollywood reported today that Netflix is thisclose to finalizing a deal with Gaumont International Television to produce a 13-episode series of Hemlock Grove from Austin-based screenwriting partners Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman.

McGreevy and Shipman, who’ve spent some quality time on that screenplay top-dog catalog, the Black List, are both graduates of UT’s Michener Center for Writers. (In the interest of full disclosure, I should also mention they’re my once-in-a-blue-moon drinking buddies – y’know, when they’re not jetting to and fro Hollywood being all fancy and successful and shit. Some people.) Hemlock Grove is based on McGreevy’s forthcoming gothic novel of the same name (out in March from Farrar Straus & Giroux), about a murdered girl and the ensuing manhunt… or maybe werewolf hunt, if the cover illo of a hairball with talons is any indicator.

Horror maven Eli Roth is set to direct and exec-produce the hourlong series.
