A handful of Austin-produced television shows have hit the national airwaves
in the past, the first being Carrascolendas, a Spanish-English
children’s show produced by KLRN-TV (the predecessor of public television
station KLRU) that aired on PBS in the early Seventies. Then there was
Austin City Limits, still one of the city’s best-loved exports, which is
set to begin taping its 22nd season soon.

The Austin City Limits team also produced Texas Connection and
Legends of Country Music, which received national exposure on the
Nashville Network. The first season of Texas Connection was taped at the
KLRU studios in 1991 before moving to San Antonio’s Fiesta Texas until
production ceased in 1994. Legends of Country Music was produced in 1994
and 1995 in both Austin and Nashville.

There have been a number of regional shows as well, like Texas
Entertainment News (see accompanying story), but NPrint is the first
show to be syndicated nationally. — KP
