Having won the Best Documentary awards at most of this year’s major gay and lesbian film festivals (including aGLIFF), the inspirational Living With Pride returns to Austin as a memorial to its subject, Ruth Ellis, a 100-year-old, African-American, out-of-the-closet lesbian. Ellis died last month at the age of 101 in her hometown of Detroit, and the proceeds from this screening will benefit several of Ellis’ favorite charities: the Ruth Ellis Center (a youth drop-in center), Golden Threads (a social network for older lesbians), the Full Truth Fellowship of Christ Church in Detroit, and the Downtown Senior Citizens Center in Detroit.
