This Saturday at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown, h@x0rs (see “The Straight Dope”) and newbies alike will compete in the third installment of the Linux Top Gun. Vying for Fry’s gift certificates and the honor of being Austin’s most public hackers, teams compete by trying to take down a Web server while another team defends the machine with flying fingers and Linux know-how. Good geek hobnobbin’, DJ music, exploit attempts, and beer drinking, too. Maybe Austin’s 2600 team will set up their big satellite dish again. Bring computers at your own risk.
Linux Top Gun happens 7-11:30pm on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown (409 Colorado). Admission is free.
