It’s still only SXSW eve, and two festival films, the Duplass Brothers’ comedy The Do-Deca Pentathlon and Timo Vuorensola’s Nazis-in-space midnighter Iron Sky, have already been picked up for distribution.
Fox Searchlight Pictures and Red Flag Releasing will release Jay and Mark Duplass‘ The Do-Deca Pentathlon theatrically this June (it world premieres at SXSW this Sunday). The film is described as “the hilarious story of two grown brothers who rekindle their Uber-competitive childhood sporting event … over a weekend family reunion in order to finally determine the ultimate winner. When the rest of the family is disrupted by the fierce competition of their unfinished business, the brothers must hide their efforts in order to complete the event… once and for all.” Another Duplass production will pop into theatres before then: Their Jeff Who Lives at Home, starring Jason Segel and Ed Helm, opens this month.
Meanwhile Entertainment One has bought the North American distribution rights to “Nazi-moon-colony-escapee thriller ” Iron Sky from Stealth Media Group. In a press release, an Entertainment One rep is quoted saying – with an admirably reach-for-the-stars-like hyperbole – that the film is “the ‘Citizen Kane’ of Nazis-in-space movies.” You can be judge of that yourself at the film’s North American premiere Saturday night.
