This 1934 French classic is a work of enduring poetry that has launched a thousand other movies. Nearly ten minutes of footage have been restored, new prints and soundtracks have been struck and the movie now resembles the closest thing to Vigo’s original cut (he died shortly after making the film) as we are ever likely to witness.
