French cinema stalwart Philippe Garrel has been making films since the Sixities, usually examining issues os male intimacy and existence. In La Naissance de L’Amour, Garrel turns his attention to the lives of two middle-aged men who are living out entanglements of their own making. New Wave icons Lou Castel and Jean-Pierre Léaud are cast in the leads, the black-and-white cinematography is by Raoul Coutard (Breathless, Shoot the Piano Player), and the music is by John Cale.
