Any average 13-year-old knows a thing or two about bullying. But now imagine if you had a disease that made your teeth never stop growing. Middle school just got way harder.

Austin-based filmmaker Jennifer Cox has lived with crooked teeth all her life, and she initially drafted a short script called “Teeth” when she was just 19 (N.B.: Not to be confused with the 2008 feature-length horror film). She rewrote it years later as a 20-minute, “Freaks and Geeks meets Donnie Darko” short film, but she’s turned to Kickstarter to try to make it a reality.

The crew’s already made it almost halfway to their goal, but with only a week to go, they need your help. They’re not asking for much in this campaign – just $7,000 to help cover costs for locations, insurance, craft services, etc. – and they’re offering such rewards as tees, totes, and posters to thank you for your support.

(Don’t need a molar-emblazoned tote? Give it to your dentist. You might have a whole new appreciation for him/her after this short, and they need a little love too.)

Check out the campaign video below, or just visit the Kickstarter page for more information on the backstory, the cast, and the challenges this production faces.
