Spike Lee’s Student Academy Award-winning thesis film from NYU is a focused and entertaining story about black urban life. The film uses the barbershop as as the gathering place for the film’s action, which consists of jocular conversation and dreams of big scores. Along the way, there’s murder and suspense and we also get a preview of the exciting Spike Lee storytelling that was still to come.
