Tis the season for pat downs, travel-sized liquids, and hours stuck in airports. Got an iPhone? You’re in luck, because indie game developers have banded together to sell their games cheap and have a portion of the proceeds go to Child’s Play, which helps kids play games during hospital stays. Now you can be a Scrooge and a philanthropist at the same time.
Through Dec. 31, the following apps will be marked down from $2.99 and $4.99 to a measly 99 cents. That’s right, give em a dollar and they’ll give you a penny back. Well, you’ll have one cent of credit at the app store anyway.
Local developers participating include Semi-Secret Games which will be marking down its one-button parkour apocalypse Canabalt. Best of Austin winner Spider, from fellow Austin game-maker Tiger Style Games, features the titular arachnid facing off against flying insects of all type in a battle of wits.
Other games include the fast-paced skiing action of Solipskier, the glowing spheres of Eliss and Osmos, and the Sudoku-esque addictiveness of Drop7.
All of these games are highly recommended. Do yourself a favor, check out the Indie iPhone Holiday Sale website, and give yourself an early X-mas gift or a late Chanukah present. Your iPhone will be cooler for it.
If you want to make sure that your money goes to mega-corporations, EA is also having a massive sale on everything from Sims 3 to Tetris to Madden 11 to Scrabble. That way you can be a Scrooge and an unconscientious consumer at the same time.
