Great WWII drama by the flinty-eyed Don Siegel focuses on an undermanned American platoon that holds off a German advance through tactical bluffs and iron will. McQueen, of course, plays the maverick loner, and Bob Newhart (in his screen debut that makes use of his telephone stand-up routines) plays the company clerk.
