Whats a kid to do when Dad is a loving inspiration but also an irresponsible caretaker? In the case of Josh and Ben Safdie, these now-grown brothers took the advice of those who told them throughout their childhood, “One day this will make a great movie.
The Safdie brothers turned scenes from their conflicted childhood into the narrative film Daddy Longlegs. This 2009 feature screens on Monday (8/22), 7pm, at the Alamo Ritz as part of the Austin Film Societys Best of the Fests series. That screening will be followed on Wednesday (8/24), 7pm, at the Ritz, with the North American premiere of a collection of seven of their short films.
Josh and Ben Safdie, recipients of this years John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirits, will be in attendance at both screenings and conduct Q&As. The Safdie brothers will also take part in an AFS Moviemaker Dialogue at Austin Studios on Tuesday (8/23) at 7pm.
