Even if you’re working with the itsy-bitsiest of microbudgets, it still takes a lot of cash to make a movie. Where have gads of hometown filmmakers turned, then? The Texas Filmmakers Production Fund. But there’s no fund tree out back that just requires watering and full sun. It requires, well, you.

Administered by the Austin Film Society, the TFPF is still $22,000 shy of its 2010 goal. Where does that cash go, you ask? In assisting emerging TX filmmakers with production costs. Want something more specific? You can read the testimonials from past recipients at AFS’ Persistence of Vision online journal here or visit the AFS’ YouTube page, which has trailers for the dozens of projects the TFPF has helped along the way.

And don’t forget the end-of-the-month screenings from this year’s TFPF jury, Emily Hubley (The Toe Tactic, screening 7:30pm, Aug. 24, Alamo S. Lamar), Alex Rivera (Sleep Dealer, 9:30pm, Aug. 23, Alamo S. Lamar), and Sam Green (The Weather Underground, 7pm, Aug. 23, Alamo S. Lamar).
